Man dies in flooded basement in Washington Heights: NYPD

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – A New York man died in a flooded basement in Washington Heights on Thursday, police said.

Police received a 911 call reporting an individual in distress at 701 West 175th Street. The man was in the basement, where the boiler room was located, when it became flooded, authorities said.

Witnesses say the 43-year-old victim passed out and was unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services and police were called to assist. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

It remains unclear how the victim died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York will determine the cause of death.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
