A heartbroken mother has paid tribute to her ‘beautiful’ girl who died at the weekend – with police saying the youngster’s death is currently being treated as ‘unexplained’.

Olivia Curley, 11, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday after falling ill. She died the following day.

The Hermitage Academy student reportedly had become unwell at home before her condition worsened and she was hospitalised.

Police Scotland has since launched a probe after confirming her death is being treated as ‘unexplained’.

The 11-year-old’s devastated mother, Samantha Curley, posted a heartfelt message to her ‘darling sweetheart’ who sadly lost her life on Monday.

‘I honestly have no words. I am numb. Thank you everyone who has reached out,’ she wrote on social media.

‘My beautiful girl gained her angel wings today with everyone that loved her round her she passed peacefully.

‘Away up to her nana waiting on her. I know she will be well looked after with Mum waiting on her.

‘Fly high sweetheart. I promise I will keep your little sister safe.’

Friends also shared their support to the grief-stricken parent, with one writing: ‘My heart is broken for you.’

Another added: ‘Absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through.’

Local MSP, Jackie Baillie said: ‘This is utterly heartbreaking and my thoughts are with the family and all those grieving this tragic loss.

‘It is important that we get answers on what caused this death in order to ensure this unthinkable tragedy cannot be repeated.’

A GoFundMe page has also been created by a family friend for Olivia’s mother following the tragedy.

Argyll and Bute council said it was ‘devastated’ to hear of the pupil’s death and has offered support to the young girl’s loved ones.

A local council spokesperson said: ‘We are devastated to hear about the death of one of our pupils who attended Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh.

‘Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this awful time. We are providing ongoing support to their family along with staff and pupils at the school.’

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘Around 11.40am on Monday, November 17, we received a report of an 11-year-old girl taken unwell in the Helensburgh area.

‘She had been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday, November 16, and died on Monday, November 17.

‘The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.’

The Daily Mail has approached Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service for comment.
