A multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Thomasville Road near Royal Oaks Drive left one person dead and traffic gridlocked in northeast Tallahassee.
The accident was listed as “a major incident” by the Florida Highway Patrol, which sent out an alert noting that northbound lanes on U.S. 319 were closed near Royal Oaks Drive at 2:30 p.m.
At 3:30 p.m. the northbound lanes were reopened. But the southbound lanes remained closed till about 4 p.m.
The Tallahassee Police Department said officers were summoned to the multi-vehicle traffic crash at 12:20 p.m.
A reporter at the scene saw a tow truck removing a large Goodwill truck from the southbound lane as a crunched sports car sat in the center lane.
“Sadly, one occupant an adult male, succumbed to his injuries,” TPD wrote in a traffic advisory posted on social media. “Traffic Homicide detectives are currently on scene conducting an investigation.”
“Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
