Apple working on smart door bell with iPhone like Face ID, tipped for 2025 launch. Here’s what we know

While Apple is primarily known for its iPhones and MacBooks, the Cupertino based tech giant has been looking to diversify its revenue sources for years. The Vision Pro was one such attempt but there has been limited success so far on that front. According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now looking at growth opportunities in 3 areas: artificial intelligence, robotics and the smart home.

While artificial intelligence and robotics would take a while to bore some fruits, the Tim Cook led company is now reportedly focusing its attention on smart home segment in 2025 and its first offering in the next year could be an AI backed smart home hub.

Apple’s plans for smart home hub:

Gurman states that the smart home hub could have a 6inch display and a new operating system which will be aimed at controlling home appliances, run FaceTime and play video.

Apple is also said to be working on another smart doorbell with support for facial recognition. The doorbell is said to be wirelessly connect to a deadbolt lock and will automatically unlock the door for the residents of the home by just scanning their faces, akin to how Face ID works on the iPhones.

The doorbell is also likely to have support for many third part locks which are already on the market that support Apple’s HomeKit protocol. Apple could also pair with some specific lock maker to offer a complete system on day one.
