CHICAGO (WGN) – Chicago police have issued a warning to the public after a string of armed robberies linked to social media meetups on the Far South Side.
Police said the incidents happened at the following times and locations:
12400 block of S State St on August 13, 2025 at 2:15 pm (West Pullman)
1500 block of W 111th St on August 20, 2025 at 3:10 am (South Side)
11800 block of S La sale St on August 20, 2025 at 4:00 am (West Pullman)
1 block of W 108th Pl on September 02, 2025 at 12:30 am (Roseland)
300 block of E 105th St on October 16, 2025 at 7:30 pm (Roseland)
100 block of W 127th St on October 23, 2025 at 6:57 am (West Pullman)
In each of the incidents, the victims were using social media apps to meet people. After agreeing on a time and location to meet, met with the suspect(s) who pulled out a handgun and forced the victims to give up their property and send money electronically, according to investigators.

Police did not release a description of the suspect(s), only saying they were armed with a handgun.

Additional tips from CPD:
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Immediately report suspicious activity.
If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm.
Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.).
Never pursue a fleeing assailant; provide the information to the police.
If video surveillance is available, save a copy of the incident for detectives.
If approached by a witness to the incident, request their contact information.
If making a sell or purchase use a police station as the meeting location.
