A 40-year-old cockatoo was delighted to see his former owner for the first time after ten years in late March, after a surgery restored his eyesight.
Footage filmed by Amy Hurst shows her cockatoo, Boo, bouncing his head excitedly and nuzzling up against Nedra, his former owner, at a home in Smithfield, Virginia. Hurst told Storyful that this was Boo’s first time seeing Nedra’s face after being blind for over ten years.
Boo lived with Nedra for 20 years before Hurst adopted him earlier in 2024. Ophthalmology and zoological companion animal medicine specialists at North Carolina State University successfully removed a cataract from Boo’s right eye during a surgery in mid-March, restoring his vision.
Hurst regularly posts updates about Boo on her Facebook page, Birds in the Dog House, a Virginia-based group that hand-raises baby birds “with the focus on maximizing the human/avian relationship.” Credit: Facebook/Birds in the Dog House via Storyful
