A woman was charged with DUI over the weekend after she was spotted going the wrong way on Interstate 395 in Norwich in the early morning hours, which led to multiple troopers intentionally crashing into her SUV to stop her from getting back on the interstate.

Troopers received multiple 911 calls about the wrong way driver around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Exit 11 where a vehicle was seen at a high rate of speed going south in the northbound lanes, according to Connecticut State Police.

A dashboard camera video taken by a driver in the area and turned over to state police showed a motorist swerve out of the left lane and into the right lane with other vehicles around to avoid a head-on collision with the wrong way driver.

Troopers located the vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan, as the driver was approaching the Troop E barracks in Montville, state police said. State police tried to stop the driver, but she turned into the parking lot and allegedly tried to evade them, according to state police.

State police said multiple troopers struck the Tiguan to stop the driver from getting back on the highway in the wrong direction. A dashcam video from one of the cruisers shows a trooper strike the rear driver side of the vehicle before a trooper in an SUV moves alongside the passenger side and also strikes the Tiguan, boxing it in.

No injuries were reported.

State police alleged that they had to physically remove the driver after she failed to get out of the SUV when told to do so. She was identified as 34-year-old Cailin Sorder of Griswold, according to state police.

State police said Sorder appeared intoxicated and was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way on a limited access highway, engaging police in a pursuit, interfering with an officer and first-degree reckless endangerment.

She was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Monday.
