Alan won Celebrity Traitors after a nail-biting final on last Thursday night.

Viewers applauded the hapless comedian who had been among the bookies’ favourites to win, after he managed to remain undetected throughout the competition while carrying out two ‘murders’ in plain sight.

But he faced an uphill battle as the Faithfuls voted out fellow Traitor Cat earlier in the game, leaving him the last one standing.

After managing to convince Nick and David Olusoga he was a Faithful and in doing so ending the game, Alan burst into tears when host Claudia asked him to finally reveal his true identity.

Alan revealed the betrayal had been ‘tearing me apart’ as a stunned Nick held his hand to mouth in shock, while David was – to quote Kate Garraway – ‘flabbergasted’.

The comedian said: ‘I was awful, I had no poker face but here I am.

‘Maybe I do exaggerate a showbiz story now and again.

‘But to just lie to people’s faces, it was tough’.

Fans will be over the moon to know that Celebrity Traitors has been renewed for a second season just days after the record-breaking first series saw more than 14 million viewers tune in to see the winner.

The BBC also revealed the huge financial impact it had on the company – after drawing in millions of viewers over the successful series.

The finale was also had 1.9 million viewers on BBC iPlayer, the highest live-viewing figure for any entertainment show broadcast on the streaming site.

The popularity of the series has meant huge profit boosts for Scotland, where the UK series is filmed, with the new Economic Impact Report confirming The Traitors franchise, across the UK, US and Celebrity editions, has generated an estimated £21.8million to the Scottish economy.

The report included contributions from Visit Scotland and Screen Scotland.
