Fatal mistake? Lawyer hires goons to kill girlfriend’s family, hitmen ‘mistakenly’ kill taxi driver

The Uttar Pradesh police revealed that the murder of a taxi driver in Lucknow on December 30 was a case of mistaken identity. Allegedly lawyer named Aaftab Ahmed hired a gang of hitmen to kill a woman’s family, but they mistakenly killed the taxi driver.

Three people, including Ahmed, have been arrested in connection with the case, police said, as reported by India Today

Why lawyer wanted to kill the woman

The woman is married and was having an illicit affair with the lawyer. So he hired the hitmen to eliminate her husband and father, the police said. Aftab paid the gang an advance of 2 lakh.

The gang member enlisted Yasir to carry out the killings. Yasir, in turn, brought Krishnakant on board to execute the plan. However, due to a mix-up, the duo ended up killing the wrong person.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Raveena Tyagi told India Today, “The accused reached Madehganj on December 30 to carry out the murder but ended up killing the wrong person. The weapon, bike used in the crime, and the phones of the accused have been seized.”

The incident led to a friction between the gang and Aftab. He then refused to pay the remaining amount because their plans had gone haywire.

Police also recovered an illegal firearm, 14 live cartridges, a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime, and three mobile phones. DCP Tyagi said the accused would be presented in court.

Man kills mother and sisters in hotel room

In a separate incident, a man from Agra, accused of killing his mother and four sisters in a hotel room in Lucknow, was placed in judicial custody on Thursday. Meanwhile, the police are actively working to apprehend his father.

According to Lucknow police, the father conspired with his son to carry out the murders of his wife and four daughters in the hotel room. The son has been in judicial custody since January 2.

“We have formed four teams to search and arrest the father, Mohammad Badr. The main accused Mohammad Arshad in his video confession claimed that his father was also involved in the murders. Arshad has been sent to judicial custody,” (DCP) Tyagi had said.
