Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Three is evacuated as police ‘investigate suspect package’

Passengers have been evacuated from Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Three amid reports of a suspect package being investigated by police.

There had been been reports of a bomb threat, Air Live said.

Posts on social media reported that a suspicious item was found inside a passenger’s baggage with police and other emergency services in attendance.

Heathrow is the UK’s busiest airport, typically seeing more than 200,000 travellers pass through each day.

Today’s disruption comes two months after the airport was shut down all day after a devastating electrical fire.

The official Heathrow Express rail service account on X, formerly Twitter, posted a message cautioning travellers about disruption this afternoon.

The train firm said: ‘Some Heathrow Express trains to and from Heathrow Airport are currently delayed. Please allow extra time for your journey.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.’

The Metropolitan Police said shortly before 5pm that the alert had proved a false alarm and the incident was being ‘stood down’, with the terminal reopening. 

And a spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said shortly afterwards: ‘This afternoon, our teams responded to a potentially suspicious article in Terminal 3. 

‘As a precaution, a small part of Terminal 3 was temporarily evacuated while the authorities conducted the appropriate checks.

‘The issue has now been safely resolved. We apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience caused.’
