Man critically injured in early morning shooting on West Side

CHICAGO (WGN) — A person of interest was taken into custody on Saturday after a man was critically injured in an early-morning shooting on the city’s West Side.

Chicago police said the incident unfolded just after 2:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of West 16th Street in North Lawndale.

Officers were first called to the scene following a report of a person shot in the area, and when they arrived, they found the victim, an adult male, inside a dark-colored sedan in the roadway.

Further investigation revealed the victim had suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

While on the scene, officers took a person of interest into custody and recovered a weapon.

It is currently unclear what led to the shooting and an investigation is underway.
