Pro wrestler, 39, dies mid-match after suffering medical emergency in New Jersey


Star independent wrestler Vince Steele passed away after suffering a medical emergency during a match in New Jersey on Sunday. Fondly known as “The Jurassic Juggernaut,” he was 39 years old.

According to multiple US reports, including the ones cited by The New York Post, the New York City native suffered a “cardiac event” while participating in a four-way bout at a Brii Combination Wrestling (BCW) event in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.

BCW eventually announced the tragic news on X on Monday. “During yesterday’s event, Vince suffered a medical emergency in the ring. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Ridgefield Park Police Department, who were on the scene within minutes and immediately provided emergency medical assistance,” read the tweet. “Despite their rapid response and the best efforts of first responders, we tragically lost Vince.”

They added, “This is an unimaginable loss, and we ask for patience and respect as we process this tragedy. We will share more details in the coming days on how we plan to honour Vince’s incredible legacy.”

Although BCW did not initially confirm a cause of death, Fightful reported The Jurassic Juggernaut had “sustained a cardiac event.”

RIP Vince Steele: Tributes pour in on social media

Steele competed on the independent circuit. He also worked with Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW) in Florida and ACE Pro Wrestling in New Jersey. “We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of ‘The Jurassic Juggernaut’ Vince Steele. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans,” the former posted on X. “Rest In Peace, big man. You will forever be missed.”

Fellow pro wrestler Vincent Michaels also joined the wrestling community in grieving, calling Sunday the “worst day” of his career. “Vince Steele gave everything to pro wrestling & today he gave his life for it,” he honoured The Jurassic Juggernaut’s memory. “Every single wrestler/referee/crew on hand did everything they could to keep him going & they should be proud of that. I know I am.”

Independent wrestler Anthony Gangone, who also goes by the alias Dr Sleep, tweeted, “Yesterday was an unimaginable tragedy that occurred. I want to first and foremost acknowledge the family, friends and love ones of Vince Steele. I’m so sorry for this loss,” alongside screenshots of a lengthy heartfelt note.

Therein, he didn’t forget to highlight: “Vince was a father, son, brother and friend to so many… I’ve known Vince for 10 years at least. Always laughing. Cracking jokes. Checking in… I never saw him angry. I never saw him yell… He was that good hearted, good spirited person that you want to hang out with in the corner of a party to just talk for a bit.”

In a follow-up post, Gangone also shared the GoFundMe for his funeral arrangements.

The fundraiser post reads: “Family and friends it’s with great sadness to announce the passing of my brother Vincent Vince Steele Rosa. The Best Big Man In The Business! He departed unexpectedly and so suddenly doing exactly what he loved to do and that was wrestle. His last dance was yesterday March 16th, 2025 at the MADNESS AT THE MECCA in RIDGE-FIELD PARK, New Jersey. The family humbly ask for any contribution to assist with arrangements and to ensure his children can send their father off peacefully. GBY.”
