Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India crash that killed 241, is still recovering three months later, according to his wife
The crash survivor’s wife said she is “not sure” when he’ll return to the U.K. from India, adding that the couple’s son “understands but still misses his dad”
Vishwash continues grieving his older brother, who was among those who died on the London-bound flight on June 12
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh became the only survivor of the Air India plane crash three months ago, and his recovery continues to be an uphill battle.
On June 12, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff in India, resulting in the deaths of 241 people, 229 of the 230 passengers on board and all 12 crew members.
Vishwash, a 40-year-old British citizen, was hospitalized for the injuries he sustained — “impact injuries” to his chest, eyes and feet following the crash, The Hindustan Times previously reported. As of Friday, Sept. 12, Vishwash is still recovering and receiving treatment in India, his wife told The Times. He is also grieving his older brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who was among the victims of the tragedy.
Vishwash’s wife, who was not identified by name by the outlet, has returned to the United Kingdom with the couple’s young son for the school year, The Times reported. The rest of their family, meanwhile, is staying in India with the lone survivor.

Vishwash’s son “understands but still misses his dad,” his wife told The Times. She also said it is unclear exactly when Vishwash will be able to return home.
“I’m not sure when he’s coming back to the U.K., as his treatment is going on,” she told the outlet.
Vishwash’s wife also reiterated that her husband witnessed all of the horrors of that day, and the fact that he lost a sibling.
“Everything happened in front of him and the main thing is he lost his brother,” she told The Times.
Vishwash was visiting family in India with his brother Ajay, 45, and was returning to the U.K. when the crash occurred, he previously told The Hindustan Times. Ajay was sitting just a few rows away on the flight.

Vishwash was later released from the hospital on June 17, five days after the crash, The Guardian, BBC News and Sky News reported at the time. The day after his initial release, he helped carry his brother Ajay’s coffin during the funeral in the Indian town of Diu, according to the outlets.
Prior to his wife’s recent interview with The Times, another relative opened up about how Vishwash was doing in the wake of the tragedy in an interview with Metro UK.
In July, Krunal Keshave — identified as a “family member” of Vishwash from Leicester, England — told Metro UK that the crash survivor “can’t sleep at night.” Added Keshave of Vishwash: “He sleeps but doesn’t sleep properly. When he sleeps, he dreams he is on the flight. He remembers seeing everyone die in front of his eyes.”
“He speaks, but he doesn’t speak about the crash,” the family member added. “He is currently trying to have a normal life, but he is not going out too much.” The crash survivor, his relative added, “is spending time at home with the family.”

Vishwash previously recounted the final moments before the crash while speaking with The Hindustan Times from his hospital bed.
“Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed,” he told the outlet. “It all happened so quickly.”
“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran,” Vishwash added. “There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”
