Suspect arrested, claims self-defense in Appleton domestic violence incident

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – One man is claiming self-defense after being arrested following a recent domestic violence incident in Appleton.

According to a release from the Appleton Police Department, officers responded to a local bar where a woman with a bloody lip told employees she was followed to the bar by a man.

Officers arrived and spoke with the woman, who was said to appear to have several visible injuries, including multiple bruises, cuts, and a swollen face.

She claimed that her boyfriend had caused the injuries by repeatedly punching and kicking her while also threatening her with a kitchen knife and saying that he would kill her and her family if she told anyone about the incident.

The woman said that her boyfriend ultimately kicked her out of the place where the fight took place. Police say that’s when she had gone to the bar for help with the man following her on foot.

Officers made contact with the suspect at his home, where he reportedly admitted to being involved in a physical disturbance with the woman but claimed he acted in self-defense.

After an investigation, police say the man was arrested and taken to the Outagamie County Jail on the following potential charges:

  • Battery with a dangerous weapon enhancer
