Area residents report ‘homes shaking’ following mysterious boom

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Multiple people across Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina reported hearing a loud boom Sunday evening.

Social media posts are circulating of residents in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Moyock, N.C., feeling their homes shake after hearing the sudden noise.

The cause of the noise that was heard is currently not known.

The U.S. Geological Survey did not report any earthquakes in the area at the time of the reports.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department told 10 On Your Side they were unable to find any source for the sound or vibration.
